In the Channel Islands, car-free Sark’s population almost doubles in the summer with tourists who want to experience a gentler pace of life. Helen and her Normandy cob Philly run a taxi service with antique carts and carriages. The Calf of Man has largely been uninhabited since the 1950s, with only a handful of wardens getting the opportunity to experience life there.
